For several years Kelly and her famous horse, Rocky (Rockem Sockem Go) dominated the professional sport of rodeo in the WPRA, qualifying for the NFR 5 times, winning back to back Reserve World Champion Titles in 2002 and 2003 and then back to back World Champion titles in 2004 and 2005.
Kelly is among a prestigious group of only 7 women in the history of the WPRA that have won back to back titles.
Before becoming an icon in the rodeo world, she was a 7th grade reading teacher at Bellville Jr High School in Bellville, Texas. She juggled both careers for a while until she and Rocky started winning almost everywhere they were entered.
The rodeo trail is not easy, Kelly would be away from her home and husband, Jerry, up to 3 months or more at a time and it was made even more difficult by having a small child. Daughter, Kenna went everywhere, along with her mom, Kay. Stepson, Colton would come on some trips as well. So being a driver, stall cleaner, feeder, vet tech, mom, and a jockey was a challenge. Not only was she competing, but she was a spokes person for different companies and was in many advertisements and articles in magazines, had many television appearances, and commercials. This would later turn into a short stint doing radio color commentary for the NFR for a few years, and she wrote for a couple of horse magazines for a while.
In recent years, Kelly has dedicated much time to teaching Horsemanship and Barrel Racing Clinics around the country and traveled as far as Australia and New Zealand. She also spent time being a rodeo mom, hauling her daughter, Kenna to her competitions.
Now she’s back on the rodeo trail with a new horse and pro rodeo hauling partner, Kenna who is now attending college.
Kelly’s new passion is working with Las Vegas Events and different host producers on her JrNFR Barrel Race qualifiers (KK Run For Vegas) around the country, and producing her JrNFR Barrel Race in Las Vegas, in December.
